Loss of Game

[1] CheckMate

King’s in Check – can you

[a] Take the checking piece

[b] Block the check

[c] Run away

If you can’t – its CheckMate  – Game Over

[2] Resigns

Give up?   –  lay your King on its side.

[3] Time

[a] Player exceeds the time limit eg. “flag fall” on his clock.

[b] Player fails to appear before the default time expires.

[4] Illegal Move

[a] Standard [60min +]  2nd illegal move

[b] Rapid and Blitz   1st illegal move

[5] Arbiter Intervention

[a] electronic device in the playing area

[b] Failure to comply with FIDE Laws of Chess

 DRAW

[1] Players can agree to draw once they have both made one move.

Many Tournaments set a limit [eg. 30 moves] before a draw offer can be made. Mark offer on score  =

[2] Stalemate

Player has no legal move and is not in check.

[3] Dead Position

Neither player can checkmate the other eg. Bishop and King v King

[4] 3 times repetition

the same position is about to occur for the 3rd time.

[5]  last 50 moves

by each player without any pawn moving or any capture.

Alphaeus wins both Senior and Junior Events

 

Over the School break Senior and Junior Tournaments were held at the Auckland Chess Centre with one player dominating all events.

It began with the NZ Junior Championship  11 – 14/7/2017

South Auckland Inter-Schools

On Wednesday the 14th of June the South Auckland Primary Inter-Schools Chess Tournament was held at Everglade Primary School.

Results.

1st Papatoetoe Central 1. [ which included club members Henry and Max Lou with Max scoring the perfect 6 out of 6

2nd Puhinui 1.

3rd Puhinui 2.

Well run and supported event!

Next day Thursday 15th of June saw the South Auckland Intermediate Schools Chess Tournament at the Papatoetoe Intermediate School.

1st Rose hill Intermediate [ continuing their strong showing in the Primary section in previous years]

before we began the next tournament, so that players could be sorted

1st   Fa Fia   with 7/8

followed by Aiden, Max Luo, and Max Jiang on 5/8

SORRY about the delay posting completely overlooked it, BUT we got there in the end.

WELL DONE  – Fa Fia  that’s a great score.

 

Inter Schools Chess Championship 2017

 

May 9th was the start of the Inter Schools Championship for Primary , Intermediate , and Secondary Schools.

Friday May 19th saw South Auckland Secondary Schools in action.

We had Ryan Nguyen, and FaAfulia Fia, playing for Kings College One and Lloyd Williams, for Papatoetoe High One which also included an ex member Ethan Stowers.
