Blitz Tournament

We had a fun night with 14 members turning up for the blitz.

This tournament is run over two nights and the total points will determine the winner. On this first night John Worn blitzed the field (excuse the pun!!). John won all his games to be on 13 points and he is followed by Katrine McCarthy and Temu Maroroa both on 10 points and then comes Aiken Eliu on 8.5 points.

CLUB CHAMPS ROUND 10 (FINAL ROUND)

A GRADE

Before the final round Katrine and Saif played their round 8 game. Katrine won causing Saif’s first loss of the tournament but he still maintained 1/2 lead into the final round.

In the final round the top half are paired with the bottom half. There were no upsets with all three taking a full point so Saif takes the tournament by a half point – congratulations Saif.

B & C GRADE

I was unable to report on round 9 last week as I did not have the results however there was no change in the leaders of both grades over the final two rounds. Both Sivakumar and Harry won the B and C grades respectively and quite comfortably. Siva with an impressive 8.5/10 and Harry with 7/10.

It is interesting and exciting that all three grade winners are new to the club this year.

B & C GRADE

Unfortunately this round was rather spoilt by many people not turning up and not letting the club captain know. We had three people win by default so they did not get a game. If we had know, these people would have been paired with each other. There was only two games that played out –

Harry Bong v Pauline Thomas 1-0
John McRae v Paul Postma 1-0

In the B Grade Siva again gets the lead on his own (he got a win by default). Ronnie Shaddick is second (one of the defaulters) and Stefan Brzozowski moves into third courteously of a default.

The C grade is being lead still by Harry with a 2 point advantage over Aiken and Gavin in second equal.
