Our Club Champs begin on Wednesday 20 August. The A grade is separate this year and is a 6 person round robin. The B and C Grades will be run as one group in the Swiss format. The time control is 75 minutes + 30 seconds so if you want to enter please be there before 7.30pm or contact a club official.
Last Wednesday we completed the 8 round Spring Rapid 30/30. Congratulations to Katrine McCarthy winner of the A Grade and Stefan Brzozowski and Vialli Eliu who were 1= in the B Grade.

Understanding basic endgame ideas will not only improve your results against players of equal strength, but give you a serious weapon against weaker players, and let you hold your own against much stronger ones
REMEMBER –
1. ACTIVATE YOUR KING early,you dont have to wait until all the pieces have exchanged.
2. PASSED PAWNS MUST BE PUSHED – the closer they get to Queening the stronger they become. Protect them,and control the Queening square.
3.EXCHANGE PIECES – when you are ahead in pawns.
4.EXCHANGE PAWNS – when you have less than your opponent.
5.ROOKS BELONG BEHIND PAWNS – to attack or protect them.
6.ROOK ON THE 7th RANK – for White [or 2nd for Black] is VERY STRONG! Not only can it cut off the King , but also wipe out his pawns on that rank.
7.PUT PAWNS ON OPPOSITE COLOUR – TO YOUR BISHOP.
8.KING INFRONT OF YOUR PAWN – and gain control of the Queening square.
Play ACTIVELY & AGGRESSIVELY – BUT CHECK YOUR MOVE BEFORE YOU MAKE IT.
A lost tempo or misplaced King will lose the game.
